About the Project

CAP4Clima

The “CAP4Clima” Information Measure aims at both raising and deepening awareness of farmers, rural stakeholders and the general public on climate, which is the cornerstone of the sustainability-related objectives of the new CAP in the Green Deal era, as well as on the cross-cutting objective of knowledge, innovation and digitalization, which acts as a catalyst in order to achieve the ambitious climate-related objectives.

More specifically CAP4Clima is going to inform farmers, rural stakeholders and the general public on the climate-related objectives and measures of the CAP in the Green Deal era and on the contribution of knowledge/innovation/digitalization to a climate smart agriculture, aiming to:

  • increase engagement to the objectives and uptake of measures towards a climate smart agriculture on behalf of farmers and rural stakeholders,
  • improve knowledge of the general public when it comes to the climate dimension of the food system’s sustainability and the CAP’s contribution towards this direction,
  • build trust among farmers and citizens by helping farmers better understand and deliver in terms of climate-related public goods as well as by contributing in making citizens understand the important climate-related challenges linked to the food system’s sustainability and the efforts made by the farming population within the context of the CAP.

Γιατί το έργο είναι σημαντικό και ποιες ανάγκες πληροφόρησης καλείται να καλύψει;

Connection of the project with the increased information and communication needs:

  • The overarching goal of the European Green Deal is to make Europe the very first climate neutral continent;
  • Farmers already greatly feel the adverse effects of climate change but they will need to substantially increase efforts in order to contribute to climate change mitigation according to the new CAP ambitious climate-related objectives;
  • These newly introduced objectives and the measures to serve them consist an important step forward compared to the climate-related objectives and measures of the CAP 2014-2020;
  • The cross-cutting objective of knowledge, innovation and digitalization will be key in order to deliver on these new ambitious objectives;
  • The new CAP marks a paradigm shift when it comes to governance, with the Member States taking greater responsibility and accountability within the design and implementation of the CAP Strategic plans;
  • Adapting the CAP Strategic Plans according to the newest developments when it comes to ongoing and foreseen climate-related legislation stemming from the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategies, as well as from the Fit for 55 package is an obligation for Member States according to the political agreement on the new CAP concluded in June 2021.
